Children are naturally friendly and kind. They see the good in everyone they meet so it’s easy for them to build friendships with anyone.
Meet Deacon
Deacon Ross is a two-year-old boy from East Dallas, Texas who’s been a delight to the people in their neighborhood, especially to the kind man who collects their garbage every week.
A Weekly Routine
Every Friday, Deacon would stand outside their house and wait for O’Dee, a garbage man named Oladele Olurunrinu who comes by their house, to stop by.
His Best Friend
Over time, the two of them have developed a special bond, but this day is a sad day for them because it’s Deacon’s time to say goodbye to his best friend.
He’s About To Become A Big Brother
When Deacon’s family learned that he is about to become a big brother, they bought a bigger home that is unfortunately located outside O’Dee’s garbage route.
Final Hug
As usual, when O’Dee arrived, Deacon happily greets him and jumps into his arms. Deacon’s mom, Summer, sees how happy her son is when O’Dee is here. She says, “I don’t think he really understands that this could be the last time that he sees O’Dee.”
A Special Gift
Before saying their final goodbyes, Deacon’s mom helped the toddler hand his best friend a basket full of goodies and gifts. “I’m going to miss him,” O’Dee admits.
What His Baby Brother’s Name Can Be
Summer also tells O’Dee that she and her husband consider naming their newborn O’Dee, in honor of Deacon’s first friend, and, well, because of the toddler’s constant mentioning of the name.
Let Them Choose Their Friends
Positivediscipline.com says that parents should always let their children choose their friends and that there is not an ideal number of friends because each child has their own personality and social preference.
